Future Planning Session 12.4.25.png

In December, our Executive Director spoke to attendees at a Partners in Policymaking training course about Future Planning. You may be wondering what future planning is and why it is so important.

Planning ahead can help guide a person with a disability to lead a good life as independently as possible. A plan is important throughout all stages of life and especially in the future after the parent or caregiver is no longer able to provide support.

The act of future planning is to create a resource guide that reflects the wishes of the person the plan is about, as well as their parents, siblings, extended family, friends, caregivers, and other important people in their life.  Future plans include information about all aspects of life, such as:

daily routines, needs, and supports.

living arrangements.

financial information.

medical information.

decision-making support.

education and employment.

daily activities, social connections, and more.

At The Arc Upper Valley, we are available to talk to individuals and families about future planning. We can provide information, resources, and creative ideas as you create a comprehensive plan.  Follow this link to get future planning support from our organization.
