Hello
The Arc of Bismarck is a local nonprofit dedicated to promoting and protecting the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in the Bismarck–Mandan community. Through advocacy, community education, and inclusive initiatives—including its community thrift store—The Arc of Bismarck works to build awareness, reduce barriers, and support opportunities for people with disabilities to live, work, and participate fully in community life.
OUR WORK
This page highlights The Arc of Bismarck's local work and community engagement, an independent Arc chapter serving the Bismarck–Mandan community. While The Arc of North Dakota leads statewide policy and systems advocacy, local chapters like The Arc of Bismarck focus on community-based efforts, awareness, and partnerships that reflect local needs.

Before winter break, students from the Bismarck Public Schools Life Ed program visited The Arc of Bismarck Thrift Store as part of their Holiday Pop-Up Shop learning experience. Students selected wrapping supplies and practiced real-world skills, including customer service, functional math, inventory organization, and gift-wrapping. Their visit provided a meaningful opportunity to build confidence and independence and to engage directly with our staff and community members. Our team truly enjoyed assisting the students and seeing their learning come to life.

This collaboration goes beyond a seasonal activity—it demonstrates why our advocacy and policy work matters. When communities create inclusive spaces and ensure access to practical learning opportunities, students with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain the skills they need to thrive. The Arc of Bismarck was proud to support this project with donated materials, and we (The Arc of Bismarck) appreciate the Life Ed staff and students for inviting us into their learning environment. Partnerships like this show the real-world impact of our mission and the importance of policies that promote meaningful participation for all.
